Vortex IX conference 2015

in Rhodes, Greece 2015

The “Vortex IX” conference, also known as the “9th International Conference on Vortex Matter in Nanostructured Superconductors,” took place in Rhodes, Greece, from September 12 to 17, 2015.

This conference was a satellite event of EUCAS 2015 and continued the tradition of previous successful VORTEX conferences. It focused on Abrikosov fluxonics, which involves studying the properties and dynamics of Abrikosov vortices in nanopatterned superconductors, with an emphasis on their confinement, manipulation, and exploitation. Topics included vortex pinning, guided vortex motion, and the ratchet effect, all of which are crucial “fluxonic tools” for controlling fluxons dynamically, directionally, and orientationally.

An invited lecture at the conference, for example, discussed Abrikosov fluxonics in washboard nanolandscapes, presenting experimental results on vortex dynamics in Nb thin films with periodic pinning structures. Researchers like Jonas Bekaert from the University of Antwerp also received awards for their presentations on topics such as Type-I behavior in multigap superconductors.
